CAME Parkare have signed a major deal that sees the car parking technology specialists partner with Gatwick Airport, London (GAL). Working with a major international transport hub in the UK for the first time is a demonstration of the expertise and commitment of the Barcelona based, Italian owned, company.

Providing Gatwick’s onsite parking equipment provisions is a big step forward in the parking industry for CAME Parkare, both in the UK, and globally. Following a successful tender process CAME Parkare Managing Director, Renato Berto, stated For CAME Parkare it is a great opportunity to present our cutting-edge car park system to the international parking arena. We are very proud to have had the opportunity to share our vision together with Gatwick, and we are fully committed to ensuring this project is to the satisfaction of all of the stakeholders, and above all, the satisfaction of passengers

The Gatwick site will see the installation of CAME Parkare’s new flagship pay-on-foot system – PKE. It will be the largest installation of its kind in the UK, following its release at the Intertraffic exhibition in Amsterdam during April, 2016. It’s the first system designed and built with the backing of parent company, CAME, following a takeover in 2014. This flagship system unites the engineering heritage of both companies, providing a system that is technologically equipped to compete at the highest level in today’s industry. Head of R&D at the Spanish head office, Jose Maria Canales, commented CAME Parkare has one of the best, if not the best, car park control management system, however the innovation of the machine was missing. With much talk of the ‘cloud’ and ‘apps’ the machine itself can often be forgotten.

Keeping this in mind, we’ve worked hard to deliver an elegant, simple and understandable line that provides smooth, effective operation, which isn’t easy to achieve. PKE performs required functions automatically, therefore personnel are not required to be in situ of the machine, meaning there is virtually no on site maintenance required.

All this important work gets rewarded in emblematic projects such as GAL, where CAME Parkare will have the privilege of supplying the airport with this system. Although we have a broad experience in the airport sector, with over 50 airport installations, it will be the first one in UK of such significance.

Gary Wallace, Gatwick’s Head of Car Parking, said: We are looking forward to working with CAME Parkare as their experience and innovation in the sector is world renowned. Gatwick is confident this partnership will continue to help deliver a first rate experience for our passengers as they park at the airport.

CAME Parkare will work alongside car park management provider Empark, who maintain the management and operation of all of the parking sites at the Airport.  Empark is one of the leading car park management companies in the UK and has worked with CAME Parkare on other projects across Europe. Gatwick generates up to 400,000 transactions across its onsite parking facilities each month, with many transactions occurring through their online payment system. The new deal will see CAME Parkare provide the car parking systems of:

  • North terminal long and short stay
  • South terminal long and short stay
  • Valet parking across the entire site
  • Premium parking across the entire site
  • A number of other seasonally operated car parks across the 300,000m2 site

To minimise disruption for the millions of passengers passing through the hub each year, project planning is well underway with completion set for mid-2017.
